ABOUT LINOLEUM
CUT PRINTS These Linoleum cut prints are considered a fine art print like etchings, woodcuts and engravings. The original is carved with chisel knives into a rubber like or linoleum surface. An oil based ink is applied to the surface of the “block” with a brayer, the paper placed on top and carefully burnished by hand. The black and white print is allowed to dry and then hand-painted with watercolor, allowing each print to be distinctively different. I use Arches fine watercolor paper, 140 lb coldpress, to print on, which also allows maximum vibrancy from the watercolor applications. Prints are signed and dated but not numbered. No edition of prints will ever go over 200 because the blocks will not endure that long. And I probably will not either. |
